In June the steelworkers mailed a taxi Driver survey to 3,500 Licensed Boston hackney drivers seeking Interest in uniting taxi drivers with the. association. The union received 1,500 of these surveys back,. This is a monumental testimony to your determination to gain a voice and be heard, and to win back the dignity and respect you deserve as professional taxi drivers in the City of Boston. since July the steelworkers have been working on your behalf to represent your interests at City hall, Mass port, and with the Hackney Division of the Boston police Department, the union continues to represent drivers at meetings with Hackney and Mass port Authorities. In August we demonstrated outside the Hotel Marriott at Tremont to protest "kickback" demands from hotel doormen just to do business at their hotel. At the September Hackney meeting steel workers voiced opposition to the current flat rate proposals being considered. The Union has been meeting with the president of the Boston City Council and with several other city council members the union is currently meeting with local state legislators representing the Boston neighborhoods in support of the B T D A. The " Boston Drivers Association" has the full support of the Greater Boston Labor Council.
